Edifier TWS5
Audio August 1, 2020

Years ago, I was working out on a treadmill, my favourite tunes pushing me forward, then I reached for my water bottle and accidently caught the wire on my headphones. This pulled my phone onto the treadmill and sent it shooting off the back and across the gym, taking my headphones with it. I jumped to avoid standing on it and somehow managed to hit the kill switch, but I still slowly and ungainly fell off the back. I still go red thinking about this, ever had 30 people attempt to stifle a laugh all at once? I can almost guarantee the CCTV footage gets played at the xmas parties. This is the reason I have a soft spot for Edifier, shortly after treadmill-gate I got my first set of Edifier wireless earbuds and I was amazed by the value for money.
The TWS5 follows in exactly the same pattern, good quality at a great price, the IPX4 rating means they can handle the sweat from the gym and a rain shower whilst out on a run. They feature a 12hour battery life when used with the compact charging case, the earbuds lock into place via the magnetic connectors, connecting over Bluetooth 4.2. They come with three different silicone ear tips for a precise fit and hold in the ear securely even whilst running or jumping, both earphones have playback buttons for call and music operation, the left earphone has an omnidirectional microphone built-in to support CVC voice noise reduction for clearer phone calls.
There is the option of mixing and changing audio channels when only using one, it can be switched to mono sound so both stereo channels play through the one earbud, this is handy for keeping one ear on the surrounds without losing detail in the music. The sound quality produced by the 8mm magnetic moving coils is enjoyable and surprisingly bass heavy for the size which remains clean and energetic at higher volumes, the mid is clear and the high tone reasonable although they do get a little lost under that bass at times.
These low cost earbuds have no business producing the quality of sound that they do, a great choice for commuting to work or working out with no chance of wire related embarrassment.
