I love horror movies. Especially when they get to the point where it’s all dark and creepy and all of a sudden the torch starts going on the blink or they drop it and it switches itself off just as the bad guy is coming round the corner… If only they had had this torch! Would have made many horror movies pretty lame and pointless though, let’s be thankful they didn’t!

The reason I mention this is because of the thought that has gone in to this device. First of all, it’s made out of aerospace-grade aluminium (you’d need one hell of a hit to actually damage it at all!) giving it a nice ruggedness and a sense of reliability. The on/off switch is located within a recess on the end of the torch so if you do drop it, it’s incredibly unlikely it will switch itself off and you have the option of attaching it to a lanyard or clipping it on your belt, pretty much covering any given set up you’ll want to have. They’ve even covered up the charging port (USB-C) so it won’t get dust in it. And to top it off, it’s also IPX8 waterproof meaning that, if you so desired, you could operate this torch underwater at up to a depth of 2 metres. I’m thinking of those unlikely scenarios in horror movies again…

As for the actual thing the torch is designed for in the first place, it has a maximum luminosity of 1600 lumens and has a range of over 200 metres but also has a medium and low setting for when you don’t need to blind everything and everyone near you! Lastly, a strobe setting gives you an option for if you ever need to advertise your location or signal somebody. RRP: $79.99

A well designed, decent torch handy for most uses that is small enough to fit in a pocket and light enough to not be a burden if on your belt or lanyard, a worthwhile purchase.
  • Lightweight at 94g
  • Bright!
  • Rugged, durable and compact
  • Well designed
  • A separate switch to change the brightness rather than relying on the on/off button to adjust it would have been preferable.
