Nokta Makro Simplex+

It was recently reported that a 10 year-old in Northern Ireland discovered a 300 year old sword hilt after trying out a metal detector he got for his birthday, this shows that you don’t have to be an experienced detectorist to find buried treasure.

The Simplex+ from Nokta Makro has been designed as a versatile detector with high end performance but at entry level prices, this is the first waterproof detector on the market offering extreme depth at this price. As the name suggests the Simplex+ is simple to use, with a turn on and go action with auto ground balancing, it features pre-set search modes, including a beach mode, with single menu design. This detector has a retractable shaft which shrinks down to 63cm making it suitable for children as well as making it easier to transport and more controllable in the water. It has a lightweight design at 1.3kg which reduces any fatigue in the arm when out all day, and with up to a 12hour battery life it is certainly possible. The Simplex+ has an IP68 rating making it fully submersible up to 3 meters (10 ft) and protected from total dust ingress, this means it is suitable for diving but only in shallow waters, rivers for example.

The vibrating alert allows you to uncover things underwater but can also be used as a secondary alert for when out on dry land or primary alert for hearing impaired users. The Iron Volume mode lets you turn off or adjust the volume of the low iron tone, the Notch Discrimination separates target IDs of unwanted metals. There are five search modes, Field, Park 1, Park 2 and Beach as well as an All Metal mode, the Built-in Wireless Module is compatible with 2.4 GHz Nokta Makro Green Edition Wireless Headphones, which are generously padded and provide for cable free comfort. You can get rid of EMI easily by shifting the frequency in small increments, the display panel has an LCD backlight, keypad backlight and around the front there is a LED flashlight to increase visibility at night and underwater. Other features include the USB charger allowing a power boost from a power bank, the detector can stay up to date with online firmware updates available via the USB on a PC making it less likely to outgrow this machine. There are also now 2 optional coils available – SP22 and SP24 for stubble and trashy sites.

It is hard not to fall in love with this detector, it is simple enough for beginners but technical enough for experienced detectorists to enjoy and who knows, the first thing you dig up could be an ancient lost treasure…or a bottle cap, that is all part of the fun.
