I was recently talking to my window cleaner about how to get the inside of my windows as spotless as he leaves them on the outside (because that’s the type of conversations you have when you are the other side of 30) and he suggested using a steam cleaner.
The Polti Vaporetto SV440 Double Steam Mop comes with a wide range of attachments one of which being the window cleaner squeegee, so I was excited to put this to the test. It’s is easy to assemble, all the accessories and components are intuitive to attach, the 300ml water tank can be removed and filled up with cold water straight from the tap. The Polti Vaporetto will heat up the water in just 15 seconds, you choose the pressure of the steam by adjusting the dial and then you are ready to go, just press the trigger on the main body and aim the nozzle at the window. Sceptical that my windows could be cleaned without the use of chemicals I tested it out on the kitchen window, a good test considering there are remnants splattered all over with battles of dishes washed in the weeks gone by. Getting the angle right with the squeegee and releasing steam was a little tricky so eventually I used the steam lance to spray the window and whipped the squeegee over the window by hand, within a minute or so the window was dry and sparkling clean, I was so pleased.
Next up I wanted to try the steam mop, this requires attaching the handle and mop head, because it is mains powered you may have to consider logistics, the 7.5m lead is reasonable, it should reach all the corners of the room but I found it a little annoying I had to unplug it when moving room to room as this often meant walking back over the wet floor. You get two floor cloths which is handy for having a separate bathroom one and kitchen one, the mop head is flexible and easy to get into the corners, the steam trigger could do with an auto lock just to give your hands a break from squeezing the entire time. My floors looked great afterwards without too much physical effort, there is a brush on the back of the mop head that can be used to scrub off tough dirt which was handy as you didn’t have to bend down and the floors were fully dried after 10 minutes.
I fell a little bit in love with the Polti Vaporetto Double SV440, however there are a few improvements that could be made, a longer lead, an on/off switch on the main body (so you don’t have to walk across wet floors to switch it off at the mains), a trigger lock, a larger hole to make it easier to drain the water out when finished to prevent limescale built up. However, the wide range of accessories including the rug and carpet attachment, upholstery attachment, ease of use and effective results plus the quick heat up time and compact storage outweighs the flaws. The Polti Vaporetto Double SV440 is a versatile, functional and easy to use cleaning tool, killing 99.9% of bacteria without the use of chemicals, you also have the added option of using the Frescovapor deodoriser to leave your home smelling fresh and clean.
