TomTom Go Discover 7 5

In a world now ruled by phones and Google Maps I was very interested in taking a look at the new Go Discover from TomTom to understand why someone who doesn’t already have Google Maps already integrated into their dash would not just use their phone to access Maps.

The TomTom Go Discover comes in three sizes, 5-inch, 6-inch, and the largest of the three is the 7-inch model which we got to review. The Go Discover has a resolution of 1280×800 pixels and the maps displayed looked very crisp and clear, the functions on the device were great and it was easy to navigate. I found the screen really responsive when compared to the integrated dash I had on my Nissan Qashqai. Functions included are live speed cameras, live fuel pricing and live off street parking.

These live services do come at a price however, the TomTom GO Discover comes with a one-year trial of these Live Services, after which time you’ll have to pay for a subscription. It costs £4.50 per month, or £23.99 per year, which is quite a lot considering Google Maps is free. But I guess when you weigh that up with finding cheaper fuel and free parking it can soon pay for itself. My favourite function hands down was free off road parking.

As the Go Discover has built in WiFi, you will not find more up to date world maps with 3 x faster map updates. If you are looking for a dependable sat nav that does everything to the best of its ability then look no further. I have been converted now I have got used to the off road parking detection. RRP £279.99
