This month we took the Fitbit Sense through its paces, the Sense is their premium smartwatch brought to the market in September last year. On a personal note a friend of mine has sworn by this device and as me and many others have put on weight through lockdown he has done the opposite and lost 4 stone and he swears it’s down to this device and will power.
The Fitbit Sense is one of the smallest smartwatches available and can be purchased in either Lunar White/Soft Gold Stainless Steel or Carbon/Graphite Stainless Steel. Measuring just 40.5mm across and 12.35mm thick, it has a beautiful 1.58in OLED display screen which is bright and punchy. The screen is surrounded by a polished stainless steel bezel with the rest of the body being aluminium. The watch is water resistant up to 50m and with a battery life up to 6 days between charges, with constant use and all notifications turned on we found the watch lasting 3 days, I really liked the fast charge functionality allowing the device to be charged for 24 hours in 12 minutes.
Fitbit have focussed as much on your wellbeing as they have your general fitness, when you purchase the smartwatch you receive 6 months access to their Premium service where you can tune in to their meditation sessions and mindfulness tutorials and you do all this through their stress monitoring function with the EDA scan app. With the ECG app you can assess your heart for atrial fibrillation, there is Oxygen Saturation (SpO2) Monitoring function so you can track SpO2—the level of oxygen in your blood. Other health features include the On-Wrist Skin Temperature Sensor, Heart rate tracking, built-in GPS and sleep tracking the Fitbit Sense is absolutely jampacked.
If you want to scale it all back and simply go for a run and track distance and pace while controlling your music you can as the Fitbit Sense allows you to control Deezer and Spotify directly. It even has voice assistant allowing you to speak to Google and Alexa, I felt like James Bond, you have probably guessed it already but I loved this watch and for me this sets the bar for smartwatches.
