Polar Grit X 5

So many products claim to be able to offer so much only to let you down when you have parted with your money, the Polar Grit X is the polar opposite, if anything it brings you even more than you would expect, it is like a P.A, P.T and life coach all rolled into one.
This is an ideal watch for those who are into a healthy and outdoor lifestyle, we are going to charge straight into the extensive range of functions so grab a sweat band and a drink, this will feel like a workout. The Grit X offers multisport tracking with over 130 different sports and activities available including swimming for example where it automatically detects your heart rate, swimming style, distance, pace, strokes and rest times, you can add your favourites to the sports watch in the Polar Flow app (more on that later).

The built in GPS, compass and altimeter and the Smart Coaching feature make sure you are ready for your future challenges, the FuelWise feature helps you understand the things your body needs to get the best out of your activities. The Hill Splitter mode gives you detailed uphill and downhill stats and lets you know how you performed on the ascent and descent sections of your route. The FitSpark training guide offers Automatic Recovery Measurement and the Adaptive Daily Workouts help your body and mind prepare for whatever adventures you have coming up whilst the Training Load Pro can quantify the strain of your training session and see how your training strains the different parts of your body. The Running Index estimates your running VO2max, the Running Program gives personal and adaptive training plans, the Smart Calories lets you know how many calories you’ve burned based on your weight, height, age, gender, your individual maximum heart rate (HRmax) and how hard you are training.

The Training Benefit provides motivational feedback at the end of the workout, the Serene breathing exercise can help you wind down and relax your body and mind, this watch will even keep working throughout the night with the Sleep Plus Stages that follows your sleeping pattern and gives you insights into your sleep quality. Do you need a rest yet or are you ready for more, well the Continuous Heart Rate function, something Polar have been great at recording for a long time, delivers a comprehensive view on how your heart behaves during the day whether you are at rest or working out.
The Fitness Test is a fun little feature that can test your fitness levels without you even breaking a sweat by assessing your heart rate at rest. Polar Flow is the companion app and it is here that all your training, activity and sleep data, plans and progress reports are stored. You can also sync all your training data to other apps, such as Strava, the route guidance is a great one for me as I could get lost in a shoe box, it offers real time guidance and the route can be planned out on Komoot.

To keep you in the loop you can receive alerts of incoming calls, messages, emails, calendar events and more, get the latest weather reports and live Strava segments. You can share your data with your PT or use the free Polar Flow for Coach service and join the community for extra motivation.

Still with me? Time to focus on the design.

Aside from having a huge range of functions the Grit X is thoughtfully designed, it has a slim profile for a watch this technical, weighing just 64g and measuring up at 47 x 47 x 13 mm it can be comfortably worn all day and the Always-on colour touch display has a laminated Gorilla glass lens with anti-fingerprint coating and stainless steel bezel with lugs. Its 1.2” size and 240 x 240 resolution provides a clear presentation of all your data, the menus take a little practise to navigate, this is a worthy price to pay for the wide range of options available. The military grade durability means the Grit X can take whatever you or the elements throw at it including extreme temperatures, both dropping temperatures and humidity, the battery life can last up to 40hours with the GPS and heart rate constantly activated, it will last up to 7 days with the power save mode switched on, with average use it will require recharging roughly every 4 days.
This powerful multisports watch is well worth every penny and will appeal to anyone who prioritises their health and wellbeing, comfortable, durable and hard working it is a smart watch you can rely on. RRP £379.00
