The RVR+ is an upgrade from the original RVR. So, as well as the aforementioned puzzles and tasks, this unit has an improved colour sensor, an enhanced gear box that has improved torque, payload capacity and is designed to be more customizable than its predecessor, allowing for more challenging tasks. The re-chargeable, swappable battery has also been improved so you can now just swap in a fully charged battery and keep going rather than having to take a break mid-puzzle and risk losing any progress you may have made.
As well as the online aids, there is an easily accessible app (Sphero Edu) and the device is compatible with multiple 3rd party hardware such as Raspberry Pi and micro:bit, allowing you to reach all sorts of heights of coding success. Of course, if you don’t make use of those, there is still plenty to learn with what you get including 5 colour plates so you can begin. If you need more, you can purchase them but they also tell you what the RGB numbers are so you can print your own if you wish and are on a bit of a budget – handy for schools with minimal funding and highlighting the importance Sphero put on using this as an educational tool, not to mention fun. I mean, who doesn’t want to learn how to program robots?! RRP £279.99
