Manta Sleep
Manta Sleep is a brand designed around light sleepers, to block out the things that get in the way of proper rest, like unwanted light and background noise. The brand started with its adjustable blackout sleep masks and has expanded into sound masks, earplugs and other sleep accessories, with a strong focus on comfort and thoughtful design.
We will start by looking at the Manta PRO Sleep Mask (£69), this takes the familiar blackout mask and makes it much more comfortable for people who sleep on their side. Its C shaped eye cups are slimmer around the temples, so there is less bulk pressing into the pillow, while still leaving enough space around your eyes and lashes.
The eye cups can be moved around the strap to suit your face, helping create a complete blackout seal without needing to pull the mask uncomfortably tight. Perforated foam, breathable mesh and cooling Tactel fabric also help stop things becoming hot and stuffy during the night.
An angled anti slip strap keeps the mask secure while avoiding direct pressure over the ears, and the whole thing is lightweight enough that it does not feel cumbersome in bed. Once the cups are positioned properly, it blocks out light very effectively without pressing against your eyelids.
Next up is the Manta SOUND Sleep Mask (£143), as the name suggests this combines a blackout eye mask with built in Bluetooth headphones, making it a great option for anyone who likes to fall asleep to music, audiobooks, podcasts or white noise.
The speakers are only 5mm thick and can be repositioned inside the mask, so they sit directly over your ears. That makes a noticeable difference for side sleepers, where thicker headphones can quickly become uncomfortable against a pillow. The C shaped eye cups also keep pressure away from your eyes while creating full blackout, and breathable 3D knit mesh helps stop the mask becoming overly warm.
The battery life reaches around 24 hours, which should comfortably cover several nights before it needs charging over USB C. Controls built into the mask let you adjust playback without reaching for your phone, while the adjustable strap helps get a secure fit. It is a clever combination that removes the need to choose between a sleep mask and separate headphones.
If having an eye mask on at night doesn’t feel right for you the Manta Sleep Earplugs (£21.79) might be worth a look. They have been made specifically for overnight comfort rather than simply squeezing as much noise reduction as possible into your ears. Each plug combines a soft memory foam centre with an ultra-soft silicone outer shell, allowing it to adapt to your ear while staying comfortable against a pillow.
Noise reduction is rated at 14dB, enough to take the edge off snoring, traffic and other nighttime distractions without completely cutting you off. Five complete pairs are included in sizes XS through to XL, along with a storage case. They are reusable, easy to clean and particularly well suited to side sleepers.
