It isn’t often I would call a toothbrush good looking, but the Foreo Issa 4 is just that, with a distinctive electric toothbrush that stands out from the toothbrush crowd. It comes in five colours Arctic Blue, Pearl Pink, Fuchsia, Lavender and Black. It looks nothing like a regular electric toothbrush, with its smooth silicone body and flexible bristles, and it feels surprisingly gentle to use. It is on the pricey side, but it packs in a lot of clever features that help justify the cost.

The biggest difference is the brush head. It is made from a mix of soft silicone and PBT polymer bristles, which means it is kinder on your gums while still giving your teeth a proper clean. It is also more hygienic than most brushes because the silicone resists bacteria and is easy to rinse clean. The head lasts up to six months before you need a new one, which is handy, but they do come in at £24.99 for one, there are also Sensitive and Mini brush heads available.

Battery is very healthy; the Issa 4 can go for a whole year on a single charge. It charges by USB, and once it is full you can pretty much forget about it which is handy for holidays and travelling about. It is waterproof too, so you can use it in the shower if you are in a rush.

The Sonic Pulse technology delivers 11,000 pulsations per minute for a deep, full-mouth clean. There are 3 brushing modes Deep Clean, Whitening and Sensitive and you can make it as gentle or as strong as you like. It also has a built-in timer that buzzes every thirty seconds to remind you to move to a new section of your mouth. After brushing, your teeth feel smooth and your gums feel calm rather than sore, which is a big win if you have sensitivity. The is even an app (there is always an app) to allow you to tailor your brushing modes.
