Soar Running ProtoLab Rainmac
Sports and Fitness October 6, 2025

Not only is having your run cancelled because of a heavy downpour a real disruption to your routine (especially if you’re in training for an upcoming event), a heavy downpour halfway through without decent protection can be just as disrupting and can lead to a very uncomfortable run and wet trudge home. And in this country, it’s quite likely to happen too!
In case the name didn’t give it away, Soar are all about running. So, it may also come as no surprise that this rainmac has been designed with running primarily in mind. The garment is loose-fitting but has drawcords strategically placed so you can seal up your cuffs and the hood around your face while the waistband also tightens. This obviously prevents water entering and stops the mac billowing about as you run. It’s roomy enough that once you have tightened it up, you can still move freely so you can run un-hampered. To keep it breathable they’ve used a nano membrane combined with Durable Water Repellent, a zipped rear vent and it’s fully taped.. So, you can rest assured you’ll stay at a comfortable temperature all through your run – no overheating here!
Let’s have a look at some numbers to back the claims up. The waterproof rating is 10000mm which means it can withstand a column of water 10 metres high before losing it’s waterproofing. Pretty safe to say none of us will ever be in a position where this is going to become a reality! The breathability is rated at 30,000g/m2/hr which, given most breathable, waterproof material comes in at 20,000g/m2/hr gives you an idea of how much more breathable this particular rainmac is. To top things off, the zip runs all the way from top to bottom and all the zips are YKK Aquaguard waterproof and the two large hip pockets are zipped also. RRP £495
