The Epomaker Glyph is a beautiful 75% keyboard that looks like it fallen straight out of the 90s. Its vintage typewriter style and built in 2.79-inch knob-controlled screen reminds me of those chunky word processors the bridged the gap between typewriters and computers. However when you activate the colour RGB lighting it reminds you of all its modern capabilities.
The Glyph is available with a range of mechanical switch options for its 83 vintage-inspired round keycaps, you could get a “clicky” set for full typewriter experience. The standard set still offers a typing experience that feels responsive, satisfying, and considerably more refined than the average office keyboard. Whether you’re writing reports or gaming, it remains comfortable over long sessions.
The integrated display stretches the length of the keyboard and doesn’t just serve purely as a gimmick. It can be customised to show animations, system information, images, battery life and other useful details. Is it essential? Not remotely. Is it fun? Absolutely.
Build quality has Epomaker’s trademark durability. The keyboard uses a gasket mounted structure, helping create a softer typing feel while reducing unwanted vibrations and hollow sounding acoustics. Combined with internal sound dampening layers, key presses feel more refined than the price point might suggest.
Users can switch between USB C, Bluetooth, and 2.4GHz wireless modes, making it easy to move between laptops, desktops, tablets, and other devices. Hot swap support is included too, allowing switch changes without soldering and making future upgrades refreshingly painless.
Battery life is generous with an 8000mAh battery, although heavy use of both the display and RGB lighting will naturally decrease the life. Software customisation also offers plenty of flexibility, though it is not quite as polished as some enthusiast focused competitors.
The Glyph walks a fine line between practicality and novelty and largely succeeds. The screen and design may be what grabs attention, but the solid typing experience, wireless flexibility, battery life and customisation are what make it worth considering. For anyone wanting a keyboard with a little more character than the norm, it offers a surprisingly compelling package. RRP $139
