Edifier ES60

The Edifier ES60 combines a minimalist design with vintage vibes and the durability needed for everyday use. The retro inspired styling, gold detailing and understated ambient lighting give it a stylish look, while an IP66 rating provides protection against dust and water. At around 190mm wide, it remains compact enough to move between rooms or take outside without being a hassle.

Audio is delivered by two 22mm silk dome tweeters, an oval 70 x 40mm mid bass driver and a passive radiator. Together they deliver 34W of output, with a frequency response of 58Hz to 40kHz. The sound is full and balanced, with enough low end to give music some real weight while keeping vocals and higher frequencies clear and defined. For a speaker of its size, it also creates a pleasingly broad soundstage.

Bluetooth 5.4 provides the wireless connection, with multipoint support allowing two devices to remain connected at the same time. Two ES60 speakers can also be paired for proper stereo playback experience. The USB C adds another option, supporting digital audio input from compatible devices as well as charging.

The controls on the top panel are straightforward, while the Edifier ConneX app offers further customisation. Music, Movie, Gaming and Outdoor sound modes are available, alongside controls for the ambient lighting. A built-in microphone also allows the speaker to handle calls without reaching for your phone.

Battery life reaches around nine hours with the lighting switched off, which is reasonable but not especially generous compared with some rivals. Codec support is limited to SBC too, so anyone looking for higher resolution Bluetooth formats may find it a little restrictive.

The ES60 gets the important things right. It sounds rich, looks smart and offers enough durability and connectivity to work just as well on a desk as it does in the garden or by the campfire. RRP £119.99
