ddhifi Memory Semi-In-Ear Planar Earphones

Enough of the everyday listening and open ear designs, here’s one for those craving the detail in their music. The ddHiFi E13P (Memory) Semi-In-Ear Planar Earphones appear to be designed for people who want proper audiophile experience without carrying a separate DAC, amp, and a pocket full of adapters. At around 13g per side, they are surprisingly compact for a planar set, and the semi in ear shape makes them much easier to wear than many deep sealing IEMs. Instead of pushing far into the ear canal, they sit more naturally, closer to something like classic earbuds but with silicone tips for added stability and bass response.

The standout feature is the custom 13mm ultra linear planar driver developed with Moondrop. Unlike many planar earphones that need lots of power, this driver is designed for mobile use with ten times higher electroacoustic efficiency than typical planar designs. This means you can plug them straight into a phone and still get impressive clarity, fast transient response, and excellent instrument separation.
The built in CS43198 DAC inside the USB C connector supports PCM decoding up to 32 bit/384kHz and native DSD256 playback, so high resolution files are handled properly without needing extra hardware. There is even a colour changing LED ring on the plug showing playback status: blue for standby, green for PCM, and red for DSD.

Sound wise, the tuning is balanced and musical rather than aggressively analytical. Bass has texture and control whilst the mids sound full and natural, and treble stays smooth without the harsh edge some planar sets can develop. The semi open style also creates a wide soundstage for an in ear design, making live recordings and layered tracks sound spacious.

Build quality is good, the shells use CNC machined AL6063 aerospace aluminium, paired with a reinforced braided 5N OCC cable. The cable is fixed though, which will divide opinion at this price. The retro cassette inspired carry case is a nice extra and feels far more premium than the usual soft pouch included with many rivals. RRP $169.99
