Ifi Audio Go Blu 4

Well, this is something a little different. Usually when we review amps, they’re designed for use with home sound systems so it’s something a little different getting a pocket-sized one designed for when you’re ‘on the go’. Although thinking about it, it makes complete and utter sense – you insist on good sound when at home, why not when out and about too? Especially when it weighs less than an AA battery and is about the size of a matchbox!

So, how have Ifi got away this? To begin with, the unit is equipped with Bluetooth 5.1 so it can connect to anything with Bluetooth which is most music players these days and it has 2 separate ports for your headphones, 4.4 and 3.5mm so able to handle whatever wired ear gear you’ve got without the need of an adaptor. As well as this, the USB-C port can also double up as an audio-in port for when Bluetooth isn’t an option. Don’t forget, it’s also got the DAC gear and the amp itself, all in that tiny little box. Given the size, you would be forgiven for being skeptical as to the sound quality but what Ifi have done is built those 3 distinct components on separate platforms within the housing, minimalising any interference from the components. Even the casing has been designed to reduce interference, being made from a soft-touch polymer rather than any kind of metal material

At the core of the amp is the QCC5100 Bluetooth chip allowing the Go Blu to support every current Hi-Def format as well as being usable on both Apple and Android platforms. It also supports all Bluetooth formats, covering all the codecs and updates ensure that this amp should work with whatever device you’re using for as long as you’re going to be using it for! It may seem a little pricey but the longevity this provides along with the sound quality, makes this portable amp definitely worth considering. RRP £199
