Deuter Kid Comfort 5

Getting the kids outside in the fresh air can be great fun for the whole family but sadly their ridiculously short legs means they get tired very quickly and some try to get out of walking entirely simply because they haven’t learnt how to yet (come on, get it together kids) so this usually results in us adults carrying them about at some point.

Thankfully the Deuter Kid Comfort will take the brunt of the work by helping to distribute the weight and provide plenty of storage for all the essentials for a good day out. Measuring up at 72x43x34cm (H x W x D) the bag provides 16L of storage and the whole kit weighs 3.1kg minus the kid and all your gear, this weight is mostly due to the framework but don’t let it put you off, the weight doesn’t feel much when wearing it. Available in Maron (maroon) or Midnight (navy blue), constructed from a hard wearing 420 denier and 210 denier density nylon and special high density denier polyamide that offers high abrasion resistance, the outer has Deuter Super Polytex, a 600 den Polyester thread and with a thick PU coating, helping to keep the weight to a minimum, all have a PFC-free coating to resist water and dirt and help increase the lifespan of your bag.

Let’s dive into some of the many features of this bag, starting with the new Sensic Vario Mesh Backsystem, this provides optimum breathability and comfort with ‘special ventilating hollow chamber foam’ and a mesh construction that, with every movement, creates a pump effect that circulates air through the breathable Aircontact cushions.

The extra air channel ventilation between the back cushions is effective while the weight of the carrier is transferred due to the flexible, moveable VariFlex ECL hip fins and the VariSlide back length adjustment system. The generously padded shoulder straps are perforated for extra ventilation whilst the stabiliser straps allow optimal positioning of the backpack. These are easy to reposition using the “Triglide“ buckle with two different fixing points, the side compression straps on the hip fins help to increase stability with heavy loads.

The anatomically shaped hip fins are made from multiple layers with soft foam and 3D AirMesh lining on the inside and a firm foam on the outside, this helps to transfer the load onto the hips without causing discomfort. The passengers comfort hasn’t been forgotten with a large, soft pillow that gently braces a tired child‘s head even in the corners of the pack, the seat is adjustable with a cushion that changes width according to age for a healthy seating position, along with height-adjustable foot rests.

The strong aluminium frame with broad platform is tip-over resistant making it easy to load up the child and give them a comfortable stop to sit whilst you take a break. Other features include the anatomic profiled frame that offers balance whilst allowing for natural movements, two zipped pockets on the hip fins, airy and soft comfort zones in the child seat which is also washable, 3M reflector, key holder, Hydration System Compatible, side pockets and sternum strap.

Phew, I think we are just about there with everything the Kid Comfort has to offer, if you have skipped to the end, all you really need to know it this is a comfortable and practical child carrier, easy to put on, sturdy to wear and full of useful features for a great day out, helping you to keep on trekking even when little one is ready for a nap.
