The Minelab Vanquish 360 is a good choice to get you started and feels like it was built with everyday hobbyists in mind. It is aimed squarely at beginners and casual treasure hunters, but it still brings some features that make it enjoyable for more experienced users who want a simple grab and go machine.
The inclusion of the versatile V10X 10″ x 7″ Double-D coil and Minelab multi frequency technology means that instead of running a single frequency, the Vanquish 360 uses multiple frequencies at the same time. In real world use this means better automatic target detection across different soil types and better chances of finding coins and jewellery mixed in with rubbish. For a detector at this price point that is a big win. It also has clear audio tones and vibration alerts and visual target ID numbers which helps new users quickly learn what they might be digging up.
The pinpoint mode helps you target recovery however it is pretty basic when compared to the premium models. The Fixed Iron Bias is always working away in the background to reduce ferrous interference. We also really like how lightweight at just 2.6 lbs and straightforward it feels. Setup is quick and the controls are easy to understand without reading the manual for hours. The preset search modes do a solid job, and the discrimination works well enough to reduce junk digging. A built-in lithium-ion rechargeable battery delivers dependable performance, with up to 10 hours of continuous run time per charge.
With an IP68 rating, this detector is built to handle water, dirt and dust without issue. The coil is fully submersible up to 16 ft, (dashboard is not) which makes it highly versatile across submerged environments, wet terrain and unpredictable weather.
