Sega Toys Homestar Matataki 5

There is something so mesmerising about our night skies, for as long as humans have been around, we have been fascinated with the stars and planets above us. I live in the dark depths of the countryside, and I’m still blown away on clear nights by the beauty and majesty of it all. The Sega Toys Homestar Matataki brings that wonder into the home offering a unique (and warm) stargazing experience with this planetarium. Building upon the success of previous models like the Homestar Flux, the Matataki introduces new features aimed at an even more immersive experience.

The Homestar Matataki features a compact design, measuring 160mm x 165mm x 165mm and weighing approximately 500g, it is available in a dark blue or white finish. The device is primarily constructed from high-quality plastic, providing a sturdy and durable feel, all the control buttons are illuminated, making it easy to operate in dark environments. It’s equipped with a 3-watt ultra-bright white LED, that projects up to 60,000 static stars or 10,000 twinkling stars onto ceilings or walls, covering a projection diameter of up to 106 inches. The unique twinkling function sets it apart from its predecessors, creating a dynamic and realistic starry sky.

The device also comes with an in-built speaker that plays relaxing nature sounds, you can add the shooting star function for a bit of fun. The Matataki offers a sleep timer, allowing you to set automatic shut-off times, making it suitable as a relaxing sleep aid. Power is supplied via a USB cable, enabling flexibility in power sources, including wall plugs or power banks. Additional image projection discs are available on the Sega Toys website from £22.

I love this planetarium; the twinkling star effect and nature sounds are so relaxing. Even though I’m cosy in bed staring at my ceiling the view of the stars has close to the same effect as when I witness them in the night sky. RRP £159
