We are already familiar with Mechlands low cost/high performing keyboards and the Alux68 isn’t any different. The Alux68 is a 65% layout board combines an aluminium chassis with magnetic switches. It features a solid CNC-machined aluminium frame. It feels sturdy and substantial, giving off a premium vibe that’s often missing in keyboards at this price point. The sandblasted anodised finish not only looks great but also resists fingerprints and smudges.

Under the hood, the Alux68 features magnetic switches—specifically, the TTC Aquarius or Ajazz Grain variants, depending on the model. These switches offer a smooth, responsive feel and offers a fast-typing experience, making them ideal for both typing and gaming. The rapid trigger and ultra-low latency (as low as 0.125ms) ensure that every keystroke registers instantly, giving you a competitive edge in fast-paced games.

The keyboard’s 65% layout strikes a perfect balance between compactness and functionality. You get all the essential keys, including arrow keys and a dedicated delete key, without the bulk of a full-sized board. This makes it a great choice for minimalist setups or for those who need more desk space.

RGB enthusiasts will appreciate the vibrant, south-facing per-key lighting. The lighting is bright and evenly distributed, with a range of customisation options available through the companion software. Speaking of software, while it offers a decent range of features—including key remapping and macro support—it can be a bit clunky to navigate. It’s functional but could benefit from a more intuitive interface.

One minor drawback is the lack of wireless connectivity. The Alux68 is a wired-only keyboard, which might be a dealbreaker for some. However, the detachable USB-C cable offers some flexibility in terms of cable management.

In summary, the Mechlands Alux68 delivers exceptional value for its price. With its premium build, responsive magnetic switches, and compact layout, it’s a fantastic choice for both gamers and typists looking for a high-quality mechanical keyboard. Just be prepared to deal with slightly less-than-stellar software. RRP £47
