I have to admit, my mum had one of these, back in the day and I never knew what it was for. It certainly wasn’t as swanky looking as this model however, it is reassuringly unfussy, built in Switzerland and designed to do far more than simply blitz soup.
Its power comes from a 200W motor with two speeds, spinning at up to 17,000rpm. That gives it enough umph for everything from smooth soups and sauces to smoothies, mashed potato and even crushing ice. It can also tackle less obvious jobs such as whipping cream and egg whites, mixing batters and making mayonnaise.

The clever bit is the collection of interchangeable stainless-steel attachments. You get a multi-purpose blade for blending and chopping, a beater for things such as mashed potato and cake mixtures, and a whisk for emulsifying and whipping. There is also a grinder for hard spices, herbs, coffee, nuts and chocolate. Suddenly that little stick blender starts looking like several kitchen appliances hiding in one body, without the restriction of a bowls compacity.

It is also wonderfully simple to use. There are just two buttons step one for 12,000 rpm step two for 17,000 rpm. The attachments swap onto the end and the blending shaft is watertight, so it can be immersed right up to the handle. Cleaning is similarly straightforward: rinse the working end under the tap or run it briefly in a bowl of jug of warm soapy water.

The supplied stand keeps everything neat and tidy on the worktop, although the 940g weight means this isn’t the lightest food processor around, even if it is the smallest. It comes in three colours, silver, black and white.

The DeLuxe feels built for the long haul with Swiss manufacturing and a lifetime motor warranty. It quickly becomes one of the go to kitchen appliances, which is good considering the price tag, and can genuinely replace several other gadgets. RRP £190
