This time of year, is magical in our garden, with new life arriving in all shapes and forms. My favourite thing however is watching our resident Blue Tits busy themselves by creating a home in one of our bird boxes. What happens inside is a mystery until some fluffy fledgling emerge about a month later. The Birdfy Nest is lovely bird box designed for anyone who wants a closer, more detailed look at bird life without disturbing it. It blends a traditional wooden birdhouse with modern camera tech, creating something that feels both natural in the garden and surprisingly high tech behind the scenes.

Made from wood, it looks like a proper nest box rather than a gadget, which helps it blend into outdoor spaces and encourages birds to use it. At the same time, it is clearly designed with wildlife in mind, with features like a protected entrance, metal roof, fledgling kerf cut in inside and mesh floor.
Inside, the built-in camera captures 1080P video, letting you watch everything from nest building to feeding and fledging through the Birdfy app. There is also night vision, so activity does not stop once it gets dark.

The smart features go further than simple live viewing. The app can send alerts for key moments and uses AI to recognise bird behaviour, turning clips into short highlight reels that feel more like a nature documentary than a security feed. It is an engaging way to follow the full nesting cycle without needing to check constantly and unlimited cloud storage.

Power is handled well thanks to the included solar panel, the system can run continuously without regular charging, which makes it much more practical when choosing a location. There are a few compromises, like most smart devices, it relies on a stable WiFi connection, and the app experience can vary depending on your setup. When working with nature it will take a bit of patience and trial and error, there is no guarantee the birds will move in straight away.

The Birdfy Nest works best for people who are genuinely interested in birdwatching and want a more immersive experience. It isn’t just a gimmick and has thought of what your feathery friends actually need for a safe home. I have everything crossed that next year I will get to see into the secret world a chick raising. RRP £139.99
