Reolink TrackMix PoE 5

After a recent spate of break ins in our local area, we were looking to upgrade out home security and as if by magic the Reolink TrackMix PoE landed on our desk. This outdoor PoE (Power over Ethernet) camera combines strong image quality with smart tracking features and flexible recording, making it a capable all-round choice for monitoring driveways, gardens or entry points.

The dual-lens system gives you both a wide-angle view and a zoomed-in perspective at the same time. The wide-angle lens covers broad areas, while the telephoto lens offers up to 6× hybrid zoom, so you can catch fine details without sacrificing overall coverage. The camera records in 4K Ultra HD (8 MP), which keeps footage sharp and helps with identifying faces or number plates, both day and night.

The built-in spotlights and infrared LEDs, ensure the image at night is as solid as it is in the daytime. The smart detection algorithms can tell the difference between people, vehicles and animals, letting you reduce unwanted alerts. Two-way audio means you can listen and speak through the camera whether you’re at home or away, I particularly enjoy freaking out my parents before they get a chance to ring the doorbell.
Installation is straightforward but be warned there are wires involved. However, thanks to PoE, a single Ethernet cable carries both power and data, so there’s less wiring to worry about. The unit is weatherproof, rated for outdoor use in a range of conditions. You can set it to record continuously, on a schedule or only when motion is detected, and store footage locally on a microSD card or to a compatible NVR or Reolink hub via the app.

The camera’s auto-tracking tries to follow moving objects, keeping them centred in the frame which can be useful in busy areas. That said, it isn’t always consistent or sensitive to setup, the software quirks around zones and presets also be frustrating.

Overall, the TrackMix PoE delivers a lot of capability for the price, with clear imaging, smart alerts and solid outdoor durability, though you may need patience fine-tuning settings to get the best performance. I feel better already having it keeping an eye on our property we are unable to. RRP £159.99
