Stiga Combi 748 S
Home and Garden July 6, 2025
Something I wasn’t prepared to get as I got older was lawn envy, that was quite the surprise and also appears to be a common development amongst my peers. So, if you have hit this age and have become serious about lawn care a decent lawn mower is a must. The Stiga Combi 748 S is a smart, no-nonsense machine that’s ready to work hard.
Under the hood is a 139 cc STIGA engine, rated at 2.20 kW @ 2,900 rpm, enough power to tackle long, wet grass without fuss. The 46 cm cutting width hits a sweet spot, wide enough to make progress quickly, but not so wide you lose control near edges.
The 4‑in‑1 cutting system lets you collect, mulch, side‑discharge, or rear‑discharge clippings. Combined with a 60 L hybrid collector (with a handy “bag full” indicator), it gives you flexibility depending on the task. The centralised lever-adjustable height ranges from 22 to 80 mm, great for switching between a neat, low summer cut and a longer autumn trim.
The self-propelled rear‑wheel drive makes for smooth handling, it maintains a steady pace at around 3.7 km/h, which is kind on the body, and consistent even on slight slopes. The Fulcrum handlebar is a clever touch as it lets you pivot the mower sideways (up to 25°) to get close to edges, walls, and hedges without awkward positioning.
Build-wise, the galvanised steel deck feels robust, and large 200/280 mm ball-bearing wheels roll smoothly over uneven terrain. Post-mow cleanup is easy too, just hook your garden hose into the washing connector to flush grass clippings off the deck.
Not everyone will want to go down the petrol route, but we were converted a few years ago due to convenience and power. All things considered Combi 748 S is a well-rounded, powerful, and clever petrol mower that delivers efficient mowing and flexibility. Great for lawns up to around 1,200 m², especially if you’re looking for tool-free handling, edge trimming smarts, and robust construction, all backed by a long warranty. This might go some way towards making your lawn the envy of others. RRP £399
