As with most recording devices, dash-cams have come on in leaps and bounds in recent years. Gone are the days when we’re having to squint while watching the latest ‘Cops Chase Bad Guys!’ TV show to actually tell what’s going on (Whatever are the narrators going to do for work now?) and maybe, just maybe, we’ll get some actual footage of ethereal goings-on that doesn’t look like an ink stain travelling across the lens that can be dubiously interpreted however whoever watches it wishes…
But I digress. The point of the above is to highlight the quality of the footage that the A510 provides. The camera records in 5-megapixel 1944P HDR with a 90% low-light image capability enhancement, meaning it should capture every detail in crisp clarity, no matter the lighting conditions. It also has dual channel recording, allowing you to have a rear view on your recordings that you can watch back picture-on-picture, giving you the full story, front and back. On top of this, it comes equipped with ADAS, advising you of alerts in real-time with a vocal warning including a forward collision alert, front vehicle start alert and a lane departure alert. GPS is also included, giving precise location information to complement the footage, ensuring the veracity of any footage you capture.
Of course, as with all tech these days, there is an accompanying app which allows you to adjust the settings and download footage (which is very useful as the viewing screen on the dashcam itself is a rather modest 2” IPS – presumably to help prevent people being distracted while driving!) as well as having capacity for a micro-SD card enabling you to record up to 256Gb-worth of recordings. There are additional features such as parking surveillance and 4G LTE connection for remote surveillance via your phone but you will need to purchase extra gear to enable these. RRP £101.99
