Yoto Player
Toys and Games August 16, 2024
We have reviewed the Yoto Mini elsewhere in this issue which acts like an mp3 player for kids. Well, this version is more like a mini-stereo unit with a little less portability. Think of it as ‘My First Stereo’ and you’re not too far off!
This one, just like its mini counterpart, makes use of cards to provide an easy, kid-friendly way to choose what they want to listen to. There are over a thousand titles to choose from, purchasable on their website and, of course, you can create your own cards, adding whatever you wish to them, including your own audio recordings if you wish. To get started, you will need to connect to the Yoto App but once you’re set up, other than updates, there is no need to remain connected. The Player has the ability to hold over 600 hours-worth of audio (the cards act as triggers to play content already on the player) and the battery can last for 24 hours so if used all day, you should only need to charge it once every couple of days at most.
The big, easy to grab buttons make using the Yoto Player a breeze for small hands and it comes with other handy features such as an ambient night-light with a choice of 8 different colours and a room temperature gauge. These functions are controlled via the app giving you, the parent, ultimate control over what your child is able to do with the unit but also providing a great degree of control for them, giving them a level of independence that you can manage. The app also gives you access to kid-friendly radio stations, practical things such as audio for controlling how long they need to brush their teeth, a homework timer and many other things to help set good habits without the need for you to constantly badger them! It’s a great tool all round and an easy to use aide to parenting. RRP £99.99
As Duplo™ is to LEGO™, so is the Yoto Player to whatever device us grown-ups use to play audio on plus it helps develop independence for your children, well worth a purchase!
- A great range of functions available on the app
- Acoustically engineered stereo sound
- Wired and wireless headphone capability
- Night light and ‘OK to wake’ function help your sleep!
- Just as with the Mini, I can’t find or think of any faults with this, it’s just a great concept well realised.
