Kabuto Trunk

The Kabuto Trunk is the largest of the Kabuto range, with a tall 95 litre design that opens from the front rather than splitting into two halves across the floor. That makes it much easier to access while upright, particularly in hotel rooms where floor space is already being fought over by shoes, bags and everything else.

The shell is made from Bayer Makrolon polycarbonate, giving it plenty of strength without tipping the scales. At 4.7kg, it is reasonable for a case of this size, while dimensions of 72 x 36 x 37cm give you plenty of room for longer trips.

It’s the security features that make this trunk stand out with a TSA approved fingerprint lock. This can store up to ten fingerprints, so there is no combination to remember or tiny key to misplace. The front also holds a removable computer pocket capable of taking laptops up to 18 inches. It attaches magnetically using Kabuto’s Fidlock system and can be quickly removed when you need your electronics separately.

Inside, the layout is modular, giving you more flexibility when organising clothes, shoes and accessories. Packing cubes and a suit sleeve are available separately if you want to divide things further.

Movement has had just as much thought as storage. Four Stealth wheels use metal bearings and rubber tyres to keep things impressively quiet, while the wide handle retracts completely into the top. It is a pleasure to push around the airport and lets face it, anything that can make airports feel more enjoyable is an immediate win. With the handle down, the flat surface can even double as a makeshift laptop perch while waiting around for your flight.

It is undoubtedly a premium piece of luggage, and the fingerprint system will be more useful to some travellers than others. What really makes the Kabuto Trunk stand out, though, is the upright access, removable front pocket and thoughtful layout.
