The OLIGHT Perun 3 is a cracking all-around light that works well as both a head torch and a handheld torch. In the box you get the light itself, a headband, a magnetic charging cable and a lanyard, so you’re ready to go straight away. The design feels solid and well made, with an aluminium body that has a reassuring weight without being bulky.
The torch is powerful with 3,000 lumens output, which is genuinely bright for a compact unit like this. On the highest mode it will punch a beam out to around 160 metres, making it useful for outdoor tasks, night walks and any work where you need serious light. There are several white light settings from full power down to a very low moonlight mode that can last for up to 20 days on a single charge.
One nice touch is the red light option with a couple of brightness levels and a flashing setting. Red light is great for preserving night vision if you’re checking maps, cooking after dark or working on something without dazzling yourself.
Charging is quick and painless thanks to the magnetic cable that snaps onto the back. The 5000 mAh battery itself is built-in, so there’s no faff removing cells, and the magnet means you can stick the torch to a metal surface to light up a workspace hands-free. Weatherproofing is strong too, with an IP68 rating, meaning it will keep going in rain, mud and even a short dunk in water.
On the downside it can feel a bit front-heavy when worn on the head compared with lighter head torches, and the headband bracket can scratch the body of the flashlight. These are minor niggles however as overall this is a very versatile and powerful light for camping, chores or any situation where you need reliable illumination. RRP £89.99
