The Technics AZ100 enters a wireless earbud market so crowded that it sometimes feels as though every electronics company on Earth has released a pair, Hoover! we are waiting! Fortunately, knowing this, Technics has not turned up empty handed. The AZ100 combines premium sound, excellent noise cancelling, and a feature list long as your now redundant wired headphones.
Sound quality is the main attraction, as you would expect for this price. Technics has equipped the AZ100 with newly developed magnetic fluid drivers, a technology borrowed from their higher end audio products. The result is a detailed, balanced presentation with impressive control across the frequency range. Bass is deep without becoming overbearing, vocals sound natural, and treble carries plenty of detail without crossing into the harsh territory. Whether you are listening to a podcast, a jazz recording, or something considerably less sophisticated, the AZ100 handles it with confidence.
The active noise cancellation is surprisingly impressive. Background sounds are significantly reduced, making these earbuds particularly useful for commuting and travel. When you do need to hear what is happening around you, the Natural Ambient Mode can be activated, and the Attention Mode can be used to reduce background noise and to focus on voices.
Technics has also packed in support for high quality wireless audio, including LDAC, alongside multipoint connectivity that allows three devices to stay connected at once. You get up to 10 hours of playback with ANC on, and up to 28 hours with the case which is standard. It can all be recharged together using wireless Qi charging.
The design is thought out so that the earbuds are compact, lightweight, and secure without feeling intrusive. They also come in range of colours, all of which look high end, particularly the Midnight Blue and the new Moonlight Lilac.
As is always the case with these little earbuds the touch controls can also take a little time to master, but that’s about as much as we can find to complain about.
The AZ100 succeeds where it matters most, they delivers excellent sound, effective noise cancellation, and a genuinely polished user experience. For anyone looking for premium wireless earbuds without compromise, Technics has produced something rather special. RRP £229.99
