Zhiyun Pocket Light M60 Ultra

Pocket sized lighting can only get you so far but for more accurate control of the lighting environment you are going to need something bigger. The Zhiyun Pocket Light M60 Ultra deliver quite the punch despite weighing just 430g, handy for content creators or photographers who’d rather not rely on Britain’s famously reliable natural lighting.

The M60 Ultra delivers up to a max output of around 60W, that’s 6490Lux. With a colour temperature range of 2700K to 1000K and a high CRI of 95+ and TLCI of 98+, colours appear natural and accurate whether you’re filming indoors or outdoors. Brightness, colour temperature and effects are all adjusted via intuitive onboard control or (most but not all) through Zhiyun’s companion app using Bluetooth connectivity.

It’s built in 4500mAh battery provides up to 160 minutes runtime depending on brightness settings, however with the light output at its max it will be dramatically reduced to around 30 minutes. The USB C power delivery allows both fast charging and continuous operation from a power bank or a mains adapter. The integrated cooling system keeps temperatures under control without sounding like a hairdryer.

Zhiyun also includes magnetic mounting, a Honeycomb Grid and Magnetic Diffuser, a standard quarter inch thread and compatibility with its ZY mount light modifiers. It has mesh compatibility allow you to link up multiple lights and control them all from the same app. At just 100 x 71 x 30mm, it slips easily into a camera bag or even a jacket pocket.

Its biggest limitation is simply physics. While remarkably bright for its size, it cannot quite replace a full-sized studio light but it’s not trying to replace that. Nevertheless, the M60 Ultra gets the balance right between portability, performance and versatility.
