Kaiweets KGM01 Metal Detector 4

It seems that every time I turn on the news these days, someone else has made a significant find using a metal detector. Probably to do with living in East Anglia with its rich history and plenty of flat land making things somewhat easier for detectorists, especially amateurs starting out. And that’s who the KGM01 from Kaiweets is aimed at, those who are just starting or looking for a light hobby.

You get the basics to get you started included in the kit: A fold-down shovel, finds bag, batteries, wired headphones, a carry case for the detector for when it is taken apart and, of course, the metal detector itself. This comes with a decently sized coil (just 12” in diameter) that is waterproof, allowing you to detect in shallow water. Just make sure everything is secure before you start as nothing else is waterproof! The detector has 6 modes for you to work with – All Metal, Disc Mode (sequentially remove unwanted metal items), Notch Mode (similar to Disc but allows you to customise which metals you want removed), Memory Mode (specify the type of metal), Coins Mode (I think you can figure this one out!) and Pinpoint Mode (more accuracy when trying to locate your target). The display is a decent size and fairly straight-forward to navigate, easy for beginners to get to grips with and includes such information as target depth, battery life and which mode you are currently in. You can also adjust the depth and sensitivity settings.

The shaft is adjustable from 21”- 40” so should suit all heights, including kids, although at around 3Kg’s in weight, prolonged use will likely end up with very tired arms – be prepared to just go where you’re told and do all the heavy lifting! But its simplicity should hopefully make detecting with the little ones an enjoyable affair, have fun! RRP £126.99
