Mammut Mercury IV Mid GTX
Camping and Outdoors June 10, 2025

Mammut is well known for making durable and functional footwear, and first impressions of the Mercury IV Mid GTX suggest it’s cut from the exact same cloth. This hiking boot comes in five different colours—well, variants of browns, greens, blacks, and greys. It’s available in sizes 6.5 all the way up to 13, with half sizes offered throughout.
From the moment you lace them up, these boots provide a snug fit that offers excellent ankle support without feeling restrictive. The 3D Memo Foam cushioning moulds to your foot shape, ensuring long-lasting comfort and reducing the risk of blisters on extended treks.
The Mercury IV features a Vibram sole, delivering impressive grip across a variety of terrains, from muddy trails to rocky paths. Paired with a GORE-TEX waterproof membrane and an elastic GORE-TEX tongue, your feet stay dry. The breathable design allows moisture to escape while keeping out rain, snow, puddles, shallow streams, and anything else the trail throws at you.
Built with high-quality Terracare® nubuck leather, the boots are not only durable but also produced with eco-friendly practices. The material enhances both the comfort and breathability of the boot, even during intense hikes.
Weighing in at approximately 500 grams per boot (size UK 8.5), they strike a great balance between sturdiness and lightness—ideal for day hikes where you don’t want to feel weighed down by your footwear.
The lacing system is smooth and secure, drawing the boot in exactly where you need it without pinching. With a solid double knot, they’ll stay snug all day. A small but thoughtful detail: the flat ankle eyelets help avoid the frustrating issue of laces catching on opposing hooks—something I’ve personally tripped on more than once.
All things considered, it’s no surprise that the Mammut Mercury IV Mid GTX is a great all-rounder. It offers comfort, support, and durability, making it a dependable choice for hikers tackling a range of conditions. RRP £180
