With handheld torches getting smaller yet more powerful all the time, it was kind of an inevitability that something like this would develop over time! What you see here is a torch about the size of your thumb that is capable of knocking out a chunky 1300 lumens when needed with a maximum range of about 170 metres which, by itself, is pretty impressive. But it’s the thought that has gone in to this micro-torch from Olight that really makes it stand out.

For starters, a torch this size would normally get lost really easily so it comes with its own sturdy carry case, about the size of a large lighter (and it certainly seems to be designed to mimic a lighter – appropriate really, seeing as, well, you’re getting a light out of it…). But it’s no ordinary carry case of course, you can still operate the torch while it is in the case and docked in. You can still see the LED display showing the current brightness level on the torch and the case display shows how much charge the case still has. The LED display on the case also doubles up as the power and dimming button, keeping things nice and simple with no clutter.

The 1300 lumen output only lasts for about a minute and a half but you’re unlikely to need it for much longer than that in one continuous burst. At its lowest setting of half a lumen, you’ll get 30 days-worth of use and the charging case has enough juice in it to charge up the torch 5 times and it only takes about an hour. The charging case takes about 2.5 hours to charge up so you can confidently get it all done before you leave on your adventure and not worry about running out before you’re home.
