The St.Elias boots are named after the beautiful national park in Alaska and they both share a striking rugged majesty, comfort and I know performance will always come first before looks when it comes to hiking boots but we did fall in love with the look of these.
We received the Cognac version which is definitely the more handsome version but it also looks good in Jet Black, they are available in men’s and women’s in the exact same colours (no pastel colours in sight for the ladies!), sizes 7-14 are available in men’s, 6-11 in women’s with half sizes and medium or wide versions available throughout.
Aesthetics aside these boots are also high performers, constructed from a durable 2.2mm waterproof full grain leather these boots are supple and the Nappa leather collar provides a secure seal around the ankle, this remains comfortable and supportive on uneven terrain. The integrated GORE-TEX membrane blocks snow and rain from entering the boot, while allowing moisture inside to evaporate out of the 9 billion pores per square inch, this keeps your feet dry and warm in all conditions.
The all-terrain compound midsole has an EVA Cushioning Pods for comfort straight out of the box, the tough outsole is made by Vibram with deep lugs to ensure stability and firm grip on wet and slippery surfaces. The boots are designed to provide an athletic amount of flexibility and foot comfort for long distance hikes and backpacking they weigh approx. 1320g per pair, the lace up system works well at pulling together the entire boot and the laces remained secure throughout our tests. The St.Elias take very little time to break in, they are comfortable straight away but as the leather softens up with wear you gain more flexibility and natural movement, they feel light on the feet despite that solid outsole and supportive thanks to that wonderfully soft ankle cuff.
