The first thing you’ll notice is that striking single shield lens, rather than traditional twin lenses, the Soldier 11 uses one continuous panoramic lens inspired by tactical visors. This gives an wide field of view that’s particularly handy when you’re juggling multiple monitors or immersed in fast paced games.

Despite the bold appearance, the frame tips the scales at just 34.9g, while flexible spring hinges help spread pressure evenly, making it comfortable through marathon gaming sessions or lengthy workdays.

As with every GUNNAR model, the lenses do far more than look the part. The company’s patented lens technology is available in two tints, Amber (blocking 65% of blue light at 450nm) and Sun (90%) depending on how much filtering and colour accuracy you need. Every option block 100% of UV light, while the G Shield Premium coating adds anti reflective, hydrophobic, oleophobic and smudge resistant layers to keep vision clear over throughout long screen sessions.

These glasses measure up at 142mm lens width, 49mm lens height, 141mm frame width and 122mm temples, giving them a broad fit that suits medium to larger faces. Each pair also arrives with a themed collector’s puffy pouch, Soldier 11 microfibre cleaning cloth and a 12 month warranty.

Of course, this isn’t a subtle design. If you’d rather your eyewear flew under the radar, this oversized visor look may prove a little too adventurous. The premium price also places it firmly in enthusiast territory.
