Learning an instrument can be incredibly rewarding, but it can also be frustrating when you are trying to improve without much guidance. If time and money restrictions mean classes or tutors aren’t an option, the Roadie Coach can bridge that gap. It can act as a practice companion that attaches directly to your instrument and listens while you play.

The device mounts onto the body of your guitar or ukulele and uses a clever dual microphone system to capture both your instrument and your voice separately. This means it can analyse what you are playing in real time and provide useful feedback through the companion app.

The system offers guided lessons, song libraries that you can learn, and structured practice tools designed to help you build skills gradually. There are currently over 200 songs to choose from, but you will need to subscribe for full access at $4.99 per month. The app listens to your playing and highlights timing, pitch, and accuracy, which makes it easier to see where things are going right and where a little more practice might help. It can give you feedback on your chord accuracy, strumming patterns and help you get your instrument tuned up.

Another useful feature is that the Roadie Coach acts as a portable recorder that can capture your practice sessions or ideas as they happen. These recordings are automatically organised on to the 8GB embedded flash memory storage. This gives you 250+ hours of 48KHz OPUS recordings that can be reviewed later your phone or computer. It is a great way to track progress or save musical ideas before they disappear.

There is also support for MIDI functionality, which allows the device to connect with music software if you want to experiment with digital instruments or recording setups. This gives it a bit more flexibility beyond simple practice sessions.

The hardware itself is compact and easy to attach. It will fit bodies 3.7cm and 13.7cm (1.45 – 5.39 inches) thanks to the three clamping arms of different sizes as well as a ball-head attachment for round back instruments, thin electric guitars and ukuleles.
For beginners especially, Roadie Coach adds a helpful layer of feedback and structure that can make practising feel more focused and productive. It will not replace a real teacher, but it certainly makes practising on your own a lot more interactive. RRP £189 (Currently reduced to £149)
