Camp Snap Screen Free Digital Camera 4

The Camp Snap Screen Free Digital Camera is a refreshing little gadget that strips photography back to basics. To be fair when I was a kid ALL cameras were screen free so to see a digital version really tapped into my nostalgia. The appeal of the screen is no checking, no deleting and no endless retakes. You simply point, press the shutter and carry on with your day. It feels surprisingly freeing, especially if you are used to reaching for your phone every five minutes. It also stops you becoming distracted with a quick check of social media whilst the phone is on in your hand.

In terms of features, it keeps things simple. It has an 8mp F/1.8 f=4.8mm (32 mm equivalent in 35mm terms) 1/3.2″ with a fixed focus lens, so there are no settings to adjust. There is a small optical viewfinder to help you frame your shot and a built-in LED flash for darker scenes. The camera stores roughly 2,000 photos on pre-installed 4GB tf card and the battery will manage around 500 shots on a full charge. Charging and file transfer are done via USB C, which keeps things straightforward when you want to move and view your photos a laptop.

Image quality is decent rather than outstanding, it does come pre-loaded with the Camp Classic filter, for that classic summer camp vibe. In good light the pictures are bright and colourful, with a slightly nostalgic feel. In lower light they can appear a little grainy and soft, but that is still part of the charm. Another interesting feature is the option to download additional filters. You can only use one at a time on your camera, it prevents you endlessly scrolling different ones. There are filters from Camp Snap, a user creation gallery and the option to create your own via the CS Filter Builder.

The design is lightweight and easy to slip into a bag or coat pocket, making it great for holidays, festivals or days out with friends. It also works well for children, since there are no complicated menus to navigate. It comes in a range of colours and textures but some might feel it’s a little pricey for the limited features.

Overall, the Camp Snap is about the experience rather than technical perfection. If you like the idea of being present and discovering your photos later, it is a fun and thoughtful choice. RRP $69.95
