Stiga SC100e 5
Not a huge fan of gardening, it’s not something I enjoy undertaking in all honesty although I can’t deny a certain sense of satisfaction once it’s all done. So, anything that makes gardening easier is a good thing in my books and the SC100e from Stiga is one of those things that does exactly that! Gone is the need when pruning to extend the handles ridiculously far just to get enough leverage to slice through those tough branches (I speak through hard-earnt experience here. You fought well you creeping vine you…) or for a petrol-driven monstrosity doing the job for you. Now, you just need this handy little device.

The SC100e carries a 500W brushless motor. The good thing with this is that, firstly, it’s quieter and cooler (as in temperature, not the social construct for things that are well.. cool.) than a traditional motor as there are no carbon brushes squealing against the blade, definitely a good thing, not to mention the fact that your tool will last longer as a result! Next, it delivers exactly the power level you need for the job rather than just running at full max all the time as tends to happen with brushed motors. This makes it more efficient overall which lends itself very well to the fact that this is battery and not diesel or petrol driven.

This pruning tool isn’t just the motor though. The blades are made of carbon steel and can cut up to a decent-sized 30mm circumference branch which is pretty chunky and likely about as big as most people are going to have to deal with in their own garden and you can adjust the tool to suit 3 different cutting sizes for more precision. Finally, the battery is 20V and you can get about 2000 cuts out of it before you need to recharge. Sincerely wish I had this a few years back. I swear my wrist still hurts now because of that one damn creeping vine! RRP £140
