“The red car and the blue car had a race, but all Red wants to do is stuff his face!”. Totally giving my age away there but if you recognise those lyrics, you’ll be remembering a certain chocolate-covered nougat snack advert. Relevant because these water pistols come in a choice of red or blue and it’s the first thing that sprang to mind! And don’t worry – in this case, it’s simply a colour choice, the blue isn’t any better (unless you’re trying to psyche out an unwitting opponent of course…).

Spyra have really brought water pistols in to the 21st Century. Gone are the days when you had to run indoors and drip the water from a tap through a tiny hole in the top of your water pistol or hold it under water, freezing your fingers off while waiting for the bubbles to stop rising, all the while getting bombarded by your laughing, uncaring friends who beat you to it. I don’t have bitter childhood memories, honest! No, these water pistols have Pressure Tech! In simple terms, you just need to stick the nozzle of the water pistol in to water, pump a couple of times and bingo, you’re good to go again. They’ve even textured the handle so you’re less likely to lose your grip when that inevitable soaking begins.

And there’s no feeble stream of water you’re shooting out either. With each full tank you get 18 individual water blasts that can remain accurate up to a distance of 9 metres (just under 10 yards in old money) and, if you lose count, there’s even a tank indicator so you can instantly check how much is left. By the way, there’s a discount if you buy two of them! Please excuse me, but I have to leave now, got to invite an old friend over…. Mwahahaha! RRP £79
